Schema markup generator for custom home builders
Custom home builders should use HomeAndConstructionBusiness, not plain LocalBusiness. Fill in the form and I’ll build valid JSON-LD you can paste into your site.

The properties that matter for custom home builders
Type: HomeAndConstructionBusiness. Every property below is a real schema.org property.
| Property | Why it matters |
|---|---|
areaServed | Builders work across a region, not from a storefront. List the communities and counties you build in. |
knowsAbout | Acreage, infill, net-zero ready: these specialties are how buyers and AI tools separate one builder from another. |
image | Use a strong photo of a finished home you built. It is often the first visual a search result can show. |
priceRange | Custom builds vary widely. A range like $$ sets expectations without quoting numbers you can’t stand behind. |
sameAs | Link your Houzz profile, builder association listing and social accounts so your identity is easy to verify. |
Common mistakes
Putting a show home or job site in the address. Use your office address, or leave the street out and rely on areaServed.
Marking up testimonials from your own site as review stars. Google doesn’t show self-serving reviews as stars for a LocalBusiness.
Copying the same description into every project page. The business schema belongs on your home or contact page; projects need their own content.
How to add it to your site
- Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page’s
<head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template. - Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
- Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for custom home builders covers the rest.
Schema for custom home builders: questions
Not a dedicated one. HomeAndConstructionBusiness is the closest fit, and GeneralContractor is a subtype aimed more at renovation and general work. I use HomeAndConstructionBusiness for custom builders.
The business markup goes on one main page. Project pages can be plain, well-written content with good photos. That is usually enough for search engines to understand them.
List the main ones you actually work in, such as Calgary, Springbank, Cochrane and Bragg Creek. A short honest list is better than a long one copied from a map.
