Website checklist for medical clinics

A good medical clinic website answers whether you're taking new patients, whether you have walk-in or same-day spots, and how to book or renew a prescription. This checklist covers that and everything else I check on every clinic site.

What a clinic website must get right first

Clinic websites carry a lot of daily traffic from existing patients. The site has to make the routine tasks obvious: booking, walk-in status, virtual visits, forms and results. New-patient status is one of the first things people look for, so keep it accurate.

How to use this checklist

29 checks in 7 groups.

  1. Open your website in another tab and go group by group.

Tick an item only when you have checked it on the live site, on a phone as well as a computer.

  2. Start with content and conversion.

Those groups are the most specific to medical clinics, and they are where most enquiries are won or lost.

  3. Leave technical and AI search items for last.

They matter, but they are easier to fix in one pass, and the free tools linked below help with most of them.

  4. Your ticks are saved in this browser.

Come back any time. Print it if you want to work through it with your team.

A note on compliance

Your website can count as advertising under the rules that apply to medical clinics. The compliance items here are prompts to check, not legal advice. Rules differ by province and change over time, so read the current standards from your regulator or licensing body before you publish testimonials, comparisons, prices or outcome claims.

FAQ

Medical clinics websites: questions

  1. Put it at the top of the home page and on each physician's profile, with a date it was last updated. Then keep it honest. A stale accepting note creates angry calls.

  2. Only through a secure system built for health information. A plain website form or an email attachment isn't the right place for medical details. Link to your patient portal instead.

  3. Today's walk-in status, hours, and how the daily list works. Most visitors want just that. Everything else can sit one click deeper.
