Schema markup generator for event venues

Event venues should use the EventVenue type, which describes the place itself, not the events held there. Fill in the form and I’ll build valid JSON-LD you can paste into your site.

Your details

One or two factual sentences. The same words as your homepage intro work well.
International format: +1-403-…
A real photo of you, your team or your space.
Comma-separated, e.g. Mo-Fr 09:00-17:00, Sa 10:00-14:00

A link to the venue on a map. (hasMap)
One URL per line: Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Instagram, directories.

The properties that matter for event venues

Type: EventVenue. Every property below is a real schema.org property.

Key schema properties for event venues
PropertyWhy it matters
maximumAttendeeCapacityCapacity is the first question every planner asks. Put it where search engines can read it.
addressPlanners and guests need to find you. A full address is essential.
imageUse a photo of the room set up for an event. It sells the space better than an empty hall.
hasMapA map link helps guests find a venue in an unfamiliar neighbourhood.
publicAccessVenues open only for bookings should say so, so people don’t show up expecting to walk in.

Common mistakes

  • Using Event schema for the venue’s permanent details. Event is for a dated happening; EventVenue is for the place.

  • Adding priceRange or booking fees. EventVenue isn’t a LocalBusiness, so those properties don’t belong on it.

  • Listing office hours as if the venue were open to drop-ins. Use openingHours only for times people can actually visit.

How to add it to your site

  1. Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
  2. Copy the code and paste it into your page’s <head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template.
  3. Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
  4. Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for event venues covers the rest.
FAQ

Schema for event venues: questions

  1. EventVenue is a Place, specifically a CivicStructure, made for venues. It describes the space itself. If you also run a booking business, that company can be described separately.

  2. Yes, for public events with dates and tickets, on their own pages. Each Event can name your venue as its location. Private weddings don’t need Event markup.

  3. maximumAttendeeCapacity takes one number. Use the largest, and give the seated and standing numbers on your page.
