The properties that matter for boutique hotels and lodges

Type: LodgingBusiness. Every property below is a real schema.org property.

Key schema properties for boutique hotels and lodges
PropertyWhy it matters
checkinTimeCheck-in and check-out times are some of the most asked questions. Putting them in schema makes them easy to find.
petsAllowedPet-friendly is a common filter. A clear true or false answers it.
numberOfRoomsRoom count tells people and AI tools whether you are a boutique stay or a big hotel.
addressLocation is everything for a hotel. A full, accurate address is essential.
availableLanguageInternational travellers look for staff who speak their language.

Common mistakes

  • Putting nightly rates in priceRange as exact numbers. Rates change daily; use a general range.

  • Writing check-in times as 3 pm instead of 15:00. Use 24-hour time so the value is clear.

  • Adding the hotel restaurant into the hotel markup. A restaurant with its own hours can have its own Restaurant markup.

How to add it to your site

  1. Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
  2. Copy the code and paste it into your page’s <head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template.
  3. Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
  4. Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for boutique hotels and lodges covers the rest.
FAQ

Schema for boutique hotels and lodges: questions

  1. Hotel is a subtype of LodgingBusiness and is a good fit for a traditional hotel. LodgingBusiness works for inns, lodges and B&Bs too. Both are valid.

  2. Hotel prices in Google come from separate booking and price feeds, not from the schema on your site. Your markup describes the property itself.

  3. It isn’t needed for most small hotels. Clear room pages with photos and details do the job.
