The properties that matter for dentists

Type: Dentist. Every property below is a real schema.org property.

Key schema properties for dentists
PropertyWhy it matters
isAcceptingNewPatientsIt’s one of the first things a new patient wants to know. Marking it up makes the answer machine-readable, as long as you keep it true.
openingHoursEvening and Saturday hours are a real reason people pick one clinic over another. Accurate hours also stop AI tools from guessing.
addressMatch your Google Business Profile exactly, suite number included. Dental searches are heavily local.
knowsAboutEmergency care, crowns and whitening are distinct searches. Listing them helps search tools connect you to each.
paymentAcceptedDirect billing is a deciding factor for many families. Saying so in structured data supports what the page already says.

Common mistakes

  • Using LocalBusiness instead of Dentist. The specific type tells search tools exactly what you are.

  • Marking up reviews you collected and posted yourself. Self-serving reviews aren’t eligible for review stars on LocalBusiness or Organization in Google.

  • Leaving isAcceptingNewPatients set to true after the books close. Stale markup erodes trust.

  • Creating one Dentist entity per dentist on staff. The clinic is the Dentist business. Individual dentists go on bio pages.

How to add it to your site

  1. Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
  2. Copy the code and paste it into your page’s <head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template.
  3. Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
  4. Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for dentists covers the rest.
FAQ

Schema for dentists: questions

  1. Dentist. It’s a specific schema.org type that sits under LocalBusiness, MedicalBusiness and MedicalOrganization at once. MedicalClinic is meant for general medical practices.

  2. Yes. Each location gets its own Dentist block on its own location page, with its own address, phone and hours. Give each a distinct @id.

  3. I don’t. Google doesn’t show review stars for reviews a business marks up about itself. Your reviews still do their job on your Google Business Profile.
