The properties that matter for personal trainers
Type: HealthClub. Every property below is a real schema.org property.
| Property | Why it matters |
|---|---|
knowsAbout | People look for a trainer who knows their situation, like post-rehab or strength after 50. Naming it helps AI tools match you. |
description | Say who you train and how in one plain sentence. AI answers often reuse it. |
image | Clients choose a person. A real photo of you or your studio works better than stock. |
areaServed | If you also train in clients’ homes or parks, name the areas you travel to. |
Common mistakes
Using HealthClub when you have no studio and only train online. An online coach fits Person or ProfessionalService better.
Listing certifications as review-style ratings. Put certifications in plain text on your About page.
Copying gym hours when sessions are by appointment. Say appointments are booked ahead, and list the hours you take bookings.
How to add it to your site
- Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page’s
<head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template. - Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
- Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for personal trainers covers the rest.
Schema for personal trainers: questions
If you run a studio people visit, HealthClub describes the business well. If you are an independent coach without a space, Person suits you better.
There isn’t a simple, widely used property for this on a business. Show them clearly on your About page. Search engines and AI tools read that text.
Your own site still benefits from clear markup about you. Use Person if you don’t have your own space.
