The properties that matter for massage therapists
Type: HealthAndBeautyBusiness. Every property below is a real schema.org property.
| Property | Why it matters |
|---|---|
knowsAbout | Deep tissue, prenatal and sports massage are separate searches. Naming each helps search tools match you to the right one. |
paymentAccepted | Many clients book massage through their benefits. Saying you direct bill tells both people and machines something useful. |
priceRange | Massage pricing is fairly standard, so a range like $ is reasonable. Your full rate table belongs on the page. |
openingHours | Evenings and weekends are when most people book. Accurate hours help with “open now” searches. |
description | Say “registered massage therapy” plainly. It separates clinical massage from a day spa in how search tools read you. |
Common mistakes
Using DaySpa when the business is clinical, benefits-billed massage therapy. HealthAndBeautyBusiness is the better fit.
Marking up reviews you copied from Google onto your own page. Self-serving review markup isn’t eligible for review stars in Google.
Putting a home address in the schema for a home studio you don’t want public. Leave out the street address and use areaServed.
How to add it to your site
- Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page’s
<head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template. - Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
- Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for massage therapists covers the rest.
Schema for massage therapists: questions
schema.org has no massage type, and HealthAndBeautyBusiness fits most studios well. If you run a multidisciplinary clinic with physio and chiro, the clinic as a whole may suit MedicalBusiness better.
You can, but I usually keep the business schema simple and leave the full price list on the visible page. A single priceRange covers the general idea.
Only if clients come to it. Otherwise leave out the street address and list the communities you travel to in areaServed.
