The properties that matter for bookkeepers

Type: AccountingService. Every property below is a real schema.org property.

Key schema properties for bookkeepers
PropertyWhy it matters
knowsAboutCatch-up bookkeeping, payroll and GST are separate searches from separate kinds of client. Name each.
feesAndCommissionsSpecificationBookkeeping is often sold as monthly packages. If you publish them, pointing to that page gives search tools a clear pricing source.
areaServedMost bookkeeping is remote. List the province or country you serve so you aren’t limited to your neighbourhood.
descriptionSay who you work with, trades, clinics, startups. A niche helps AI tools recommend you for the right question.

Common mistakes

  • Describing the business as a CPA firm when it isn’t. Bookkeeping is a separate service. Be precise.

  • Listing a home address for a remote practice. Leave it out and use areaServed.

  • Listing software brands in knowsAbout instead of services. Mention software on the page. Keep knowsAbout about the work.

How to add it to your site

  1. Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
  2. Copy the code and paste it into your page’s <head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template.
  3. Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
  4. Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for bookkeepers covers the rest.
FAQ

Schema for bookkeepers: questions

  1. Yes. AccountingService covers accounting work broadly, and bookkeeping fits. Just keep the description accurate about what you do and don’t do.

  2. It’s a FinancialService property that points to a description of your fees, often a URL. If you publish your packages, it’s a tidy way to reference them.

  3. If you trade under a business name, use AccountingService. You can add a Person block on your about page too. Keep the two clearly separate.
