The properties that matter for accountants and CPA firms
Type: AccountingService. Every property below is a real schema.org property.
| Property | Why it matters |
|---|---|
knowsAbout | Corporate tax, personal tax and advisory attract different clients. Listing them helps search tools send the right ones. |
description | Say “CPA firm” if you are one. It’s a protected designation and a clear signal of what you offer. |
areaServed | Many firms work with clients across Alberta or Canada virtually. Say so, so you’re not boxed into one neighbourhood. |
openingHours | Tax season hours often change. Keep the markup to your regular hours and post seasonal changes on the page. |
Common mistakes
Using ProfessionalService when AccountingService exists. The specific type is clearer.
Claiming the CPA designation in the description when not every practitioner holds it. Keep it accurate to the firm.
Marking up client reviews you collected yourself. Self-serving review markup isn’t eligible for review stars in Google.
How to add it to your site
- Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page’s
<head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template. - Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
- Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for accountants and CPA firms covers the rest.
Schema for accountants and CPA firms: questions
AccountingService. It’s a schema.org subtype of FinancialService made for accounting practices, which makes it more specific than ProfessionalService.
Only if a page lists a specific package with a fixed price. Otherwise I keep pricing on the page and the schema simple.
Referrals still check you online, and more of them ask AI tools first. Schema helps those tools describe you correctly. It’s a small job.
