Schema markup generator for artists and makers
Artists are best described with the Person type, since collectors and galleries look for the artist, not a shop. Fill in the form and I’ll build valid JSON-LD you can paste into your site.

The properties that matter for artists and makers
Type: Person. Every property below is a real schema.org property.
| Property | Why it matters |
|---|---|
name | Use the name you sign and exhibit under, so search engines can connect your site to gallery pages and press. |
knowsAbout | Medium and subject are how people search for art. Naming them helps AI tools describe you correctly. |
sameAs | Link Instagram, gallery representation pages and any Wikipedia or Wikidata entry. This is how your identity gets confirmed. |
alumniOf | Your art school is a recognised fact that helps place you in context. |
award | Awards and grants are citable facts AI tools often repeat in answers about an artist. |
Common mistakes
Using LocalBusiness when you don’t have a shop or studio people visit. Person fits an artist better.
Adding every exhibition as part of the Person markup. Exhibitions can be listed on a CV page, with Event markup for upcoming public shows if you like.
Using a nickname in name and your full name elsewhere. Keep the name consistent everywhere.
How to add it to your site
- Replace every example value in the form with your own details. They should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page’s
<head>. Most site builders have a custom code field. On a hand-built site, it goes in the template. - Test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test and validator.schema.org, and fix anything they flag.
- Add the same facts to the visible page. Structured data should describe what visitors can see. My website checklist for artists and makers covers the rest.
Schema for artists and makers: questions
Person, in most cases. Collectors and curators look for the artist by name. Use Organization only if you run a studio business under a separate brand.
Yes. Schema.org has VisualArtwork for individual pieces. It is optional; the Person markup on your main page comes first.
It is one of the most useful properties for you. Linking gallery pages and official profiles helps search engines and AI tools know they all describe the same person.
