Web design in Kensington

I design and build websites for Kensington's independent shops and cafés that carry the feel of the store and get people through the door. I meet clients in person.

Send me your site. I’ll look at it the way a local customer would and tell you what I’d change first. Coffee in the neighbourhood is on me if you want to talk it through.

The neighbourhood

Kensington is the village-style shopping area where Kensington Road meets 10th Street NW, spread across Hillhurst and Sunnyside. It is known for independent shops, cafés, restaurants and the Plaza Theatre, with students from SAIT and the University of Calgary and plenty of locals walking through. Owners are often present behind the counter, and that personality is a big part of the draw.

How people find businesses here

People search for the area by name: "kensington calgary shops", "brunch kensington", "gift shop kensington". Students and commuters arriving at Sunnyside station search "near me" on the walk.

Your Google Business Profile and a clear address block do most of the local work. The website gives Google something to confirm, and gives the person searching a reason to choose you over the place next door.

What your website should do

A Kensington site should feel like the shop. I use real photos, a short owner's story and current hours, and for retailers I add a simple product showcase or online store so browsers can come back later. Clear directions from Sunnyside station and parking notes help visitors who are not regulars.

I’m based in Calgary, so we can meet in person, walk the space if it helps, and take photos that look like the real place.

FAQ

Kensington: common questions

  1. Often, yes, but in proportion. Many Kensington shoppers find something in the store and want to buy it later, or a gift for someone out of town. A small curated online store, usually on Shopify, fits that well. I design it to feel like your shop rather than a generic catalogue and keep in-store pickup as an option.

  2. Tell your actual story. Kensington customers like knowing who runs the place and why. A short, honest about page, photos of you and the shop, and a clear sense of what you carry do more than slogans. I write it with you so it sounds like you talking over the counter.

  3. It helps for directions. Many visitors arrive by CTrain or are heading to a film and want something nearby. A line placing you relative to the Plaza or Sunnyside station tells people how close you are and catches searches from people standing nearby. It belongs on the contact page, not repeated everywhere.
