GoDaddy Website Builder alternatives
Squarespace and Wix are the easy step up for owners who still want to edit everything themselves, and WordPress suits those who want room to grow. A custom website suits established businesses that now need to compete in search, and Shopify suits anyone whose small store has become a real one.

If staying on GoDaddy Website Builder is the right call, I’ll say so. Free, from me.
Why people leave GoDaddy Website Builder
Sites can look alike
The section-based layouts get you online fast, but it’s largely pick a block and swap the content. Customers may notice when you look like the business down the road.
Fewer SEO settings
The basics, like titles and descriptions, are covered, but there are fewer advanced settings than on most builders. Once you want to compete for busy searches, you may want more to adjust.
Little to take with you
There’s no built-in site export. Moving means copying text and images by hand.
What to look for in a replacement
Room to grow
You’re leaving because you hit the ceiling. Choose something with more design and SEO headroom than you need today.
Careful domain and email handling
GoDaddy often holds your domain and sometimes your email too. The replacement shouldn’t require moving them all at once.
An editor you can still manage
You’re used to something very simple. Don’t jump to a tool you’ll be afraid to open.

When to stay on GoDaddy Website Builder
If you need a phone number, hours and a list of services online, and you rarely change anything, the GoDaddy builder does that job. A sole trader in a small town with plenty of word-of-mouth work may not need more. Fill in your Google Business Profile properly, which often matters more than the site.
Migration checklist
What to do, in order, when you leave GoDaddy Website Builder.
Copy all content by hand
There’s no built-in site export, so copy text from every page and download every image you want to keep. Do this before you change anything.
List your URLs
Note each page address so old links can be redirected. Small sites may only have a handful, but each one counts.
Check what’s attached to GoDaddy
Domain, email (often Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy), SSL and any store may all be in one account. Write down which you’ll keep there.
Set up the new site and redirects
Build the replacement and set 301 redirects from the old addresses on the new platform.
Change only website DNS records
Point the domain at the new host by updating the website records. Leave MX and email verification records untouched.
Cancel the builder, not the domain
Once the new site is live and checked, cancel the website builder subscription. Make sure you don’t also cancel the domain or email by accident.
Leaving GoDaddy Website Builder, answered
There’s no built-in export for builder sites. Plan to copy the text and images manually, which is quick for most small sites.
No. You can keep the domain registered at GoDaddy and just point it at the new website. Transferring is optional.
Not if you leave its DNS records alone. Change only the records for the website, and keep paying for the email product if you still use it.
