AI website builders alternatives
Squarespace suits owners who want to keep editing themselves on something more polished, and a custom website suits businesses where credibility and search now decide the work. Wix suits service businesses needing built-in bookings, WordPress suits those who want ownership, and Shopify suits anyone selling seriously.

If staying on AI website builders is the right call, I’ll say so. Free, from me.
Why people leave AI website builders
The copy sounds like everyone else
Generated text tends to say what every competitor’s generated text says. Customers skim past it, and it gives search engines little reason to prefer you.
It looks generated
Layouts usually come from a set of patterns. As the business grows, the site starts to undersell it.
Thin content doesn’t rank
A handful of short pages gives Google and AI search little to work with. There’s nothing to cite.
Portability varies
Closed builders usually keep the site. WordPress-based tools like 10Web are the exception.
What to look for in a replacement
Room for real content
The replacement matters less than the writing. Choose something that makes it easy to publish detailed service pages in your own words.
Design that looks like you
Look for templates or a build that can carry your brand, not just your logo in a generic layout.
A way out next time
Pick a platform you won’t need to escape from in a year, ideally one where you own the content or code.

When to stay on AI website builders
If the business is still an experiment, an AI builder is a fine placeholder. Spend your energy on the offer, not the site. Before moving, rewrite the generated copy in your own words. It’s the biggest single improvement you can make, as I explain in the problems with AI-generated websites.
Migration checklist
What to do, in order, when you leave AI website builders.
Save the text you want to keep
Copy anything you’ve rewritten yourself. Generated copy is usually better replaced than moved.
Export if your tool allows it
WordPress-based tools like 10Web produce a WordPress site you can move. Closed builders usually offer little or no export, so check your tool’s help pages and copy content manually if needed.
Check bundled extras
Some AI builders include CRM, invoicing or contact lists. Export clients and invoices before you cancel.
Write real service pages
Plan one page per service with specifics: where you work, how the work is done, what clients should expect. This is what gives search engines and AI tools something to work with.
Redirect old URLs
Even a small site has a few indexed pages. Set 301 redirects so they land on the right new pages.
Point the domain and cancel
Update DNS to the new site, confirm forms work, then cancel the AI builder subscription.
Leaving AI website builders, answered
It depends on the tool. WordPress-based ones like 10Web give you a WordPress site; closed builders usually offer little beyond your text. Check your tool’s help pages.
Use it for a draft if it helps, then rewrite with your own specifics. Generic text is exactly what you’re trying to get away from.
If the business is real and the site isn’t bringing in work, yes. If you’re still testing the idea, wait.
