GoDaddy Website Builder vs Squarespace
Squarespace is the better pick for most small businesses that care how they look, and it’s still easy to edit. GoDaddy’s builder wins when the priority is getting online today with the least possible thought, often because the domain is already there. Neither lets you take the design with you if you leave.

Side by side
Ratings are my own assessment for a typical small business, as of October 2026. Platforms change their features and plans often, so check the vendor’s current documentation before you decide.

Which one suits you
Choose GoDaddy Website Builder if…
- you want a basic site live this afternoon from guided sections
- having domain, email and site in one GoDaddy account matters to you
- the site is a placeholder while you test an idea
Choose Squarespace if…
- first impressions carry weight, as they do for a studio, salon or boutique
- you want more control over layout without touching code
- you might add bookings, a small store or email campaigns later
The difference that matters most
Design range is what separates them. GoDaddy assembles a site from fixed sections, so you swap content into a structure it picks. Squarespace templates are also a system, but the spacing, type and image handling are far more refined, and you can rearrange sections freely.
A Canmore yoga studio would feel this immediately. On GoDaddy, the site can look like plenty of other local sites. On Squarespace, with good photos, it can look considered without hiring anyone. Neither will look truly one of a kind, but the gap between them is wide.
Where each one leads
Counted from my ratings in the table above.
GoDaddy Website Builder doesn’t clearly lead Squarespace on any of the factors above.
Squarespace leads on ownership and portability, seo control, design freedom and e-commerce.
Best fit for GoDaddy Website Builder: getting a basic presence online the same day. Best fit for Squarespace: creatives, studios and small brands that want a good-looking site quickly.
Switching between them
GoDaddy’s builder has no built-in export, so moving from GoDaddy to Squarespace is a rebuild on a fresh template. Copy the text and images over, recreate forms, then point the domain at Squarespace or transfer it. Use Squarespace’s URL mappings to add 301 redirects from old page addresses, and resubmit the XML sitemap in Search Console.
GoDaddy Website Builder vs Squarespace, answered
GoDaddy, by a small margin. It asks fewer questions and offers fewer choices. Squarespace takes an extra hour or two to get comfortable with, and that extra control is mostly the reason to choose it.
Yes. You can point the domain at Squarespace with DNS records and keep it registered at GoDaddy, or transfer it. Either works.
Squarespace gives you more SEO control. GoDaddy Website Builder: Covers the basics, like page titles and descriptions; fewer advanced settings. Squarespace: Good defaults and editable titles, descriptions and redirects; less advanced control.
GoDaddy Website Builder (platform-only): No built-in site export. Plan to copy content by hand. Squarespace (partial): Some pages, galleries and one blog export in WordPress format, and products export separately as CSV. Layouts, styling and code don’t.
