Website checklist for tech startups

A good startup website explains what the product does, who it's for and how to try it, before a visitor has to scroll. This checklist covers that and everything else I check on every startup site.

What a startup website must get right first

Startup visitors include buyers, users, investors and future hires, and they all skim. The site has to make the product legible fast, show it working, and give each audience a clear next step. Security and pricing pages often decide B2B deals before a sales call.

How to use this checklist

29 checks in 6 groups.

  1. Open your website in another tab and go group by group.

Tick an item only when you have checked it on the live site, on a phone as well as a computer.

  2. Start with content and conversion.

Those groups are the most specific to tech startups, and they are where most enquiries are won or lost.

  3. Leave technical and AI search items for last.

They matter, but they are easier to fix in one pass, and the free tools linked below help with most of them.

  4. Your ticks are saved in this browser.

Come back any time. Print it if you want to work through it with your team.

FAQ

Tech startups websites: questions

  1. I think so, even if it's simple or says contact us for larger teams. Pricing tells buyers whether you're for them. Hidden pricing usually just adds a step.

  2. For B2B, yes. Buyers often check it before a demo. Explain hosting, data handling and what certifications are in progress, honestly.

  3. Describe what it is in one consistent sentence everywhere, publish clear use-case and comparison pages, and keep docs public where you can. Inconsistent descriptions produce inconsistent answers.
