  3. Read the verdict and the specific reasons behind it.

  4. If you want a second opinion, I can look at the site and tell you what I’d do.

Why it matters

A new website is a real investment of money and attention, and not every tired site needs one. Some need better photos and clearer words. Some need a faster host. Some genuinely need to be rebuilt because the foundations hold everything else back.

This quiz separates those cases. The questions cover what visitors see, what Google sees, and what you deal with behind the scenes. Questions about trust and enquiries carry more weight, because those are the reasons a site exists.

The scoring is mine, based on what I look for when someone asks whether they need a new site. It isn’t a scientific instrument. It’s a structured version of the conversation I’d have with you.

Good to know

  • Tune

The structure is sound. Fix the copy, photos, speed and calls to action, and measure again.

  • Refresh

The platform is fine but the design and content no longer fit the business. A redesign on the same foundations can work.

  • Rebuild

The foundations are the problem: slow, hard to edit, poor on mobile or invisible in search. Patching costs more than starting clean.

FAQ

Website redesign quiz: questions

  1. There is no fixed schedule. Redesign when the site no longer represents the business, stops producing enquiries or becomes hard to maintain. Many good sites are improved continuously instead.

  2. It can if URLs change without redirects or content is removed. A careful redesign keeps or redirects every URL and keeps the content that ranks, which usually protects rankings.

  3. Often, yes. If the quiz says “tune”, that is my honest view. Rebuilding only makes sense when the foundations are what’s holding you back.

  4. No. The quiz runs in your browser. Your answers are only sent if you ask me for a second opinion.
