Webflow vs Wix
Wix is the better choice for an owner who wants to build and run the site alone, with bookings and a store ready to go. Webflow is better when a designer builds the site and the business needs structured content, clean output and finer SEO control. If you’d be learning Webflow from scratch, Wix will get you further, faster.

Side by side
Ratings are my own assessment for a typical small business, as of October 2026. Platforms change their features and plans often, so check the vendor’s current documentation before you decide.
| Webflow | Wix | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A visual tool that writes real HTML and CSS, for people who think like developers. | The all-in-one drag-and-drop builder with an app for everything. |
| Ownership and portability | PartialCode export on paid Workspace plans; CMS content exports only as CSV. | Platform-onlyYour content is yours, and some data exports as CSV, but the site itself can’t leave Wix. |
| SEO control | ExtensiveFine-grained control over tags, redirects and markup. | StrongTitles, redirects, robots.txt and custom structured data are all editable. |
| AI-search readiness | GoodServer-rendered HTML; schema via custom code. | GoodPages are server-rendered and some page types get structured data automatically; custom markup is possible. |
| Performance | GoodGenerally good; heavy interactions can cost speed. | VariesMuch improved, though in my testing mobile pages often carry more script than lean sites. |
| Design freedom | UnlimitedClose to hand-built freedom for a skilled designer. | FlexibleFreeform canvas; Wix Studio adds more responsive control. |
| E-commerce | BasicWorks for small catalogues; fewer advanced commerce features than a dedicated platform. | GoodGood for small catalogues and bookings. |
| Maintenance burden | MinimalHosting and updates managed. | MinimalWix handles hosting, updates and security. |
| Learning curve | SteepThink of it as learning web design. | EasyDrag, drop, publish. |
| Pricing model | Per-site hosting plans plus workspace seats; CMS item counts and features scale by plan. | Monthly or yearly subscription. Paid plans remove Wix ads and connect your domain; some apps add their own fees. |
| Day-to-day editing | The Webflow Editor for content, the Designer for layout. | The Wix editor in the browser, or the Wix app on a phone. |
Which one suits you
Choose Webflow if…
- a designer or agency is building it and you’ll edit content
- you need structured CMS collections for many similar pages
- you want lean, semantic markup and fine control over every tag
Choose Wix if…
- you’re building it yourself with no design background
- you need bookings, events or memberships built in
- you want to make changes from your phone
The difference that matters most
Webflow assumes you know web design; Wix assumes you don’t. That one difference decides most things. In skilled hands, Webflow tends to produce leaner code and faster pages, with a CMS built for structured content. Wix gives anyone a working site, with an app for nearly every feature, and in my experience somewhat heavier pages.
A Calgary marketing agency’s own site, maintained by its designers, belongs on Webflow. A Cochrane physiotherapy clinic run by the owner, with online booking, belongs on Wix. For Core Web Vitals, Webflow’s lighter output often has the edge.
Where each one leads
Counted from my ratings in the table above.
Webflow leads on ownership and portability, seo control, performance and design freedom.
Wix leads on e-commerce and learning curve.
Best fit for Webflow: marketing teams with a designer who knows web layout. Best fit for Wix: owners who want to build and edit a site themselves, quickly.
Switching between them
Wix to Webflow is a rebuild: export blog posts where you can, structure them as CMS collections via CSV, and recreate the design in Webflow. Webflow to Wix means exporting CMS content as CSV and rebuilding on a Wix template. Both platforms manage 301 redirects in their settings; map old URLs before changing DNS.
Webflow vs Wix, answered
Usually, because its output is leaner. A heavy Webflow site with lots of interactions can still be slow, and a simple Wix site can be fine.
It’s Wix’s platform for agencies and designers, with more responsive control than the standard editor. It narrows the gap with Webflow for professionals.
Webflow gives you more SEO control. Webflow: Fine-grained control over tags, redirects and markup. Wix: Titles, redirects, robots.txt and custom structured data are all editable.
Webflow (partial): HTML, CSS and JavaScript on paid Workspace plans; CMS collections as CSV. Wix (platform-only): Contacts, store products and CMS collections export as CSV; blog posts usually move with a migration tool or by hand. The design and pages have to be rebuilt.
