Squarespace vs Webflow
Squarespace is the right choice for an owner who wants a good-looking site they can run themselves. Webflow is right when a skilled designer builds the site and the business needs structured content, deeper SEO control or a look no template provides. In my view, choosing Webflow without that designer usually leads to frustration.

Side by side
Ratings are my own assessment for a typical small business, as of October 2026. Platforms change their features and plans often, so check the vendor’s current documentation before you decide.

Which one suits you
Choose Squarespace if…
- you’re building and maintaining the site yourself
- you want scheduling, a store and email campaigns in one place
- a well-made template is enough to represent the brand
Choose Webflow if…
- a designer or agency is building it and you’ll edit content
- you need CMS collections for projects, resources or locations
- you want fine control over redirects, meta tags and markup
The difference that matters most
It comes down to skill. Squarespace keeps you inside a well-designed system, which is why it’s hard to make an ugly page. Webflow hands you the box model, flexbox and CSS classes, which is why a good designer can build almost anything and a beginner gets lost.
A Calgary boutique law firm with five lawyers and a handful of practice pages would do well on a Squarespace template. A Calgary architecture practice publishing dozens of projects, filterable by type and year, would find Webflow’s collections a far better fit. Webflow also offers stronger technical SEO control.
Where each one leads
Counted from my ratings in the table above.
Squarespace leads on e-commerce and learning curve.
Webflow leads on seo control, ai-search readiness, performance and design freedom.
Best fit for Squarespace: creatives, studios and small brands that want a good-looking site quickly. Best fit for Webflow: marketing teams with a designer who knows web layout.
Switching between them
Squarespace to Webflow: export some pages, galleries and one blog in WordPress format, convert what you need to CSV for Webflow CMS collections, and rebuild the design in Webflow. Webflow to Squarespace: export CMS content as CSV and rebuild pages on a template. Both platforms support 301 redirects, so map old URLs on the destination before switching DNS.
Squarespace vs Webflow, answered
It offers more control: custom markup, fine-grained redirects and cleaner output. Squarespace’s defaults are solid, and for most small businesses content and local signals matter more than the extra settings.
Yes, through the Editor, once someone has built it. Editing text and CMS items is straightforward. Changing layouts is where it gets technical.
Webflow gives you more SEO control. Squarespace: Good defaults and editable titles, descriptions and redirects; less advanced control. Webflow: Fine-grained control over tags, redirects and markup.
Squarespace (partial): Some pages, galleries and one blog export in WordPress format, and products export separately as CSV. Layouts, styling and code don’t. Webflow (partial): HTML, CSS and JavaScript on paid Workspace plans; CMS collections as CSV.
